GIVEAWAY - BIG WIP OHIO STAR QUILT

A few years ago I wrote about a lady who gave me two quilt tops to finish off for her as she was losing her eyesight. With the best intentions in the world I took them on. I cut and sewed hexagons for one and made it bigger and brighter but I did not finish it because  I discovered CROCHET and all my patchwork templates and fabrics were left languishing, ignored in the basket from that day forward. I felt very guilty.

But I hung on telling myself that there will be time to work on them one day, all the while building my yarn stash and because frankly it was so hard to admit that these projects were not going anywhere under my watch.

These hanging on feelings clash directly with the desire to have fewer objects (especially unfinished ones)  and even though it might seem a bit pitiful to the organised and productive folk out there whose blogs I drool over and whose work and homes I aspire to, it can be very emotionally draining.

So today - while doing more decluttering, I decided to offer the big project to one of you lovely people out there. You may be a quilter, you may be part of a group who quilts, a teacher, someone on a budget - let's face it, quilting fabric can cost A LOT - or just someone with lot more get up and go than yours truely.

IF anyone is interested, just let me know in the comments bit. If a few of you are interested a name will be drawn out of a hat.

There are SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS:

This spectacular quilt top is not complete - there are some spare squares, but you may have to make up more.

There are 35 squares (approx 12.5" x 12.5") The border is 2".

18 of them have been sewn together and some have been pinned.

It is HUGE.

It is ALL on backing paper - the traditional quilting method, but with careful measuring and sewing new blocks can be added without paper.

There is no template, although I do have the pattern (not to scale).

There is no spare fabric - all I got was the quilt top.

I will post it to you - anywhere - 2nd class in the UK and standard international anywhere else.

Here it is lying out on the (clean) kitchen floor- 8 loose squares on the quilt and some pinned.

Any questions? Fire away.

As for the little quilt, it has gone to someone local. x

THE DEADLINE FOR THIS GIVE AWAY IS 9TH OCTOBER....My mum's birthday.

Yes my dear, you shall go to the ball

While trying on a strapless bra with the in a shop the other night, the zip on Han's dress caught, not in anything visible, probably just a cheap fastener. Result, I had to break her out of the dress. Literally. There were tears and thank goodness for the very young bra fitting lady who told her own tale of her dress tearing minutes before her prom. She reminded Han that there was a whole week to fix it and it was better off happening now than on the night etc....
Well, that week has now only days left and we have a new zip but mama has not started her task....due to nerves. I am a bit out of practice putting in zips. And this is a frilly prom dress that MATTERS!!
But Lucy at Attic24 mentioned zips and sticky tape and that seems like a perfect solution. So that the frills do not get sewn in all directions, they can be taped down before the zip goes in - phew.

After this, I plan to start unpicking so that my lovely big girl can go to her ball.

It has been an odd week. I have been very productive on the crochet front. In less than a week I made this:

for Han at her request. A chocolate Swiss roll pillow!

An old WIP was frogged to start this:

The work was never going to be finished, but a friend told me how much she loved the colours and so it will end up a cushion cover for her. Not blocked yet, still a bit twirly....

Now I am impatient to start the blanket for Big J and me to snuggle under, but before that, before I buy more yarn, I am using up as many bits as I can and doing a granny stripe blanket. This is for Pem and I am getting her to have as much input about the colours as possible.

Sewing Sunday

Han cutting out her first pattern - a skirt. It has been quite a day, a big learning curve for her and for me, boy have I forgotten stuff about sewing.
So as not to scratch the kitchen or dining room tables we cut the fabric outside on the patio and spent a lot of time chasing bits that blew away.
Sorry about the nauseous slant to this photo.
The skirt is assembled, now we have to add the yoke and zip. But there is a mock maths test on Tuesday, so sewing is on hold now for revision and the test.
However as an incentive to complete this project, we have the launch of the Rising Tide EP on Saturday night, so maybe it will be done by then???
Roast dinner tonight. Lots of lovely roast veg too.
I am listing things on ebay as well and that always makes for a busy evening.
I wonder if I have my fingers in too many pies?
